Background Paper 1 – An introduction to our review
On 23 April 2026, we released the first of a series of Background Papers.
To support engagement in our review, we have released a series of targeted Fact Sheets:
General, Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Professionals, Prosecutors and Investigators and Victims, witnesses and parties to proceedings.
Background Paper 2 – Evidence law by design
On 29 July 2026 we released Background Paper 2 which explores our approach to preparing draft evidence legislation for Queensland that is fair, clear, effective, and enduring.
Background Paper 3 – Privileges: What the law protects
On 13 October 2026 we released Background Paper 3 which explores the types of privilege currently available in Queensland and those recognised in other Australian jurisdictions. It considers their origin, rationale, scope, application, and interpretation. It also identifies issues with the privileges framework, and particular types of privilege, that we will explore in our Evidence Law Review.
We will release a Consultation Paper and Draft Exposure Bill in April 2027.
Our final report and recommendations is due to be delivered to the Attorney-General on 1 December 2027.
