Building trust, crafting connections

We are committed to genuine, respectful, appropriate and culturally safe and informed engagement with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our work.

The Commission’s engagement commitment outlines our principles and approach.

We will be led by Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples on appropriate engagement and participation.

We recognise the knowledge and expertise Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, maintained throughout generations, as the world’s oldest continuing living culture.

We seek to have this expertise inform our work.

We acknowledge:

  • the ongoing impact of laws and the legal system on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in Queensland
  • our responsibility to contribute to the re-imagining of our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in Queensland
  • our desire to work towards becoming models of respect and collaboration
  • that it is hard to know whether our work is meeting the needs and expectations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in Queensland without effective engagement and consultation.

Our Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples Strategic plan summarises our commitments and achievements.
